Yoga & Movement for Children
Why Yoga & Movement?
Our children live in a rushed world of busy parents, academic pressures, competitive sports, TV and video games... – and these influences can be very stressful for kids.
Yoga and Movement allows your child a much needed time out, and a chance to let go of the stress they feel in their lives.
Through the practice of yoga and movement, children discover that learning is fun, that exercise feels good, and that taking care of their bodies is easy. In the process of all this they are making their bodies stronger for sports and keeping their bodies healthier.
Yoga and Movement for Children classes help your child release energy and tension, develop strength and confidence, and become calmer and more peaceful.
Maria DiCroce practices yoga with children using the YogaKids® program, a US Parents' Choice Award Winner.
Maria is also a certified Exercise Physiologist certified with The American College of Sports Medicine, The American Council on Fitness, and The American Aerobics and Fitness Association.
Benefits of Yoga
Yoga has also been shown to help the hyperactive and attention-deficit child. These children crave movement and sensory/motor stimulus. Yoga helps channel these impulses in a positive way. Yoga poses that seem to work especially well are the warrior pose and tree pose. They help instill calm, confidence and balance. The trick is to get beyond just "doing" the posture. I try to get them to think about what the postures mean, to become like the postures -- strong and confident like a warrior.
Yoga comes to life in fun and creative classes designed to stimulate a young child’s growing curiosity. Playful yoga poses, animated breathing exercises, fitness games, and imaginative relaxation techniques, teach young children about their budding bodies, while enhancing language development, motor coordination and play skills. Classes are an equal balance between active & passive poses
